Follow me there, eh?  Wordpress designs just didn’t cut the mustard!

LA and a tee shirt

11 Jun

I’m getting ready to head down to LA again (and again…I’ll be back for a weekend in July!) to photograph Exene Cervenka and Bonfire Madigan for the ‘We Are All Together’ book!  The strange thing about LA is that everything is very easy…perhaps it’s the climate and the excessive driving.  It’s almost unsettling.  Before I go though, I’ll be photographing B.A.S.S. (Bay Area Sista Sound) on Sunday, which is should be great fun.

In the meantime, did you know Le Tigre collaborated with Xtina?  I know, weird right?  But cool.  Besides, don’t you think her shirt is fabulous?

The Dynamic Faye Carol

7 Jun

I recently photographed Faye Carol, who has been singing since her childhood gospel choir days in Meridian Mississippi. The woman has seen so many musical trends come and go (she’s been singing professionally since the 60′s, when she began touring with funk and R&B bands), you’ve got to have a healthy dose of respect for her career. She’s truly a ‘musician’s musician’ in every sense of the word – you can tell the woman possesses talent and longevity. She needs no hype, and she’s completely real.

Plus, damn, did she know how to stand in front of a camera or what? So excited to have been able to photograph her! The images from her shoot turned out so well I decided to use them in one of the book promos/potential covers.

The Golden Filter

7 Jun

I photographed The Golden Filter for VenusZine at Mezzanine after getting back in late the other night.  It was a great show, and new images are up in the live music portfolio: audramariedewitt.com!  In the meantime, here is my favorite image from the night.

Show central.

1 Jun

It’s been an amazing week filled with art, music, and photography.  A load of quality music, from small local bands to large acts:  The National, Silian Rail, Judgement Day, and She & Him.  Check out my images of She & Him on VenusZine.com (I’m contractually obligated not to post the pictures on my blog, so you have to go to Venuszine to view them:).  You don’t want Zooey Deschanel to sue me right?

The National and She & Him both played The Fox, which is, in my humble opinion, the best place to see a show in the Bay Area.  It beats all the big fancy San Francisco theaters, like the Warfield because I think it sounds better and it feels more intimate.  Plus when you photograph larger bands, you get an awesome fabric press pass, something I am 100% in favor of – for reasons I don’t quite understand.

Copycat Fashion

25 May

A fantastic video on the innovation that (according to the video) lack of copyright encourages.  An interesting point, especially given the strange place many photographers (and other creative types as well, like musicians) find themselves in as their industries respond to shifting cultural notions of ownership of ideas and cultural property…

Rykarda

24 May

Just back from photographing Rykarda Parasol, whose rock-noir just floors me.  We photographed in Chinatown, in Hang Ah alley, dodging pigeons, grandmas with groceries, and old men who smoked too much.  A big thank you to Camille, for assisting.

Tonight is the Sheryl WuDunn with Kavita Ramdas lecture.  For those who don’t know, Sheryl WuDunn wrote Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.  And Kavita Ramdas is the president and CEO of the Global Fund for Women.

So, today is the best type of day – a day focused on art-making, community, and strong women.  Could it get any better?
